People Who Make SGC Real
Suzette Garvey, APR, owner of Simply Genuine Communications (SGC) has over 13 years of experience in marketing, public relations, writing, photography, and desktop publishing. Garvey earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Western Michigan University in 1995. In addition to Garvey, SGC has well-established associates in the areas of graphic design, photography, web development, and food catering who work as a team to bring projects to completion.
Garvey is accredited in public relations (APR), a recognition earned through the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) with whom she’s been a member since 1997. Primarily serving small businesses and not-for-profit organizations, Garvey’s marketing and public relations experience stems from professional employment with Zeeland Community Hospital, Volunteer Services of Greater Kalamazoo, and Kalamazoo Public Schools.
Clients served by Garvey in a professional and professional volunteer capacity over the years include the following: Boy Scouts of America, Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Wyoming, Calvin College, Cronkright Ventures, Food With Gladness LLC, Grand Rapids Family Magazine, Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women (GROW), Hudsonville Chamber of Commerce, Kalamazoo Child Abuse and Neglect Council, Kalamazoo Drop-In Child Care Center, Mark Kistler’s Imagination Station, Oriole Park Elementary in Wyoming, MI, Saint Mary’s Health Care, Spectrum Health and DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundations, Sun Title, Valley View Elementary School in Rockford, MI, Wyoming Public Schools, and the Zeeland Chamber of Commerce.
In 2000, Garvey received a gold award from the West Michigan Chapter of PRSA for Zeeland Community Hospital’s 1999 Annual Report in conjunction with McLoughlin Public Relations and Communications.
At this time, Garvey is published solely as a non-fiction writer. Her feature articles have been published in newspapers throughout Michigan, business and organizational publications and web sites throughout West Michigan, Momsense (the Mothers of Preschoolers international magazine), and Grand Rapids Family Magazine. Garvey’s niche is her ability to create genuine messages based on research and discernment for what appeals to people on a personal level.
“A strong, passionate writer knows no genre boundaries,” says Garvey, who’s been a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators since 2006 and continues to work on two adventure/fantasy novels for children ages 8-14.
